Santiago Atitlan - Oaxaca, Mexico
Oaxaca region can produce some of the very best cups in the country. Production here is still overwhelmingly driven by original lines of Bourbon and Typica, including the unique Pluma variety in the southern coastal mountains. With 16 distinct indigenous groups/cultures alone, many of which grow coffee, the region is incredibly diverse from an environmental, climatic, and social perspective creating with it vibrant, delicious, sweet and coffees that seem to disappear from your cup because they go down so easily.
This lot has been produced by Grupo Atitlan Mixe who come from a rather isolated area in the Mixe region, to the North and East of the capital, where they are yet to receive cell signal. The seasons can have heavier rain, making drying challenging, but the farmers are motivated and entrepreneurial, and the plants are prolific.
