El Tablón de Gomez (Decaf), Narino Colombia

We aim to drink coffee with character and our decaf coffee is no different. We cupped "heaps" of decaf coffees in order to narrow down to a decaf coffee that is deliciously creative both as an espresso and or drip. This Colombian El Tablon lot #2 hit the spot, and I'll go out on a limb to say its one of the best decaf coffees I've ever cupped.

Hats off to the producers who are part of the Fundacion Agrarua y Ambeintal (FUDAM) producer association. An association based in the province of La Union in Northern Nariño. The group was founded in 1999, formally legalized in 2000, and is run by the sister and brother team of Raquel and Jeremias Lasso. La Union comprised the group’s membership in 2000 and it has since grown to the neighboring villages and 130 members.

Processing is done in traditional smallholder fashion — coffee fruit is manually depulped by either hand or rigged with motors, fermentation occurs in small concrete or tiled tanks and sometimes plastic buckets, then, washing is done in the same tanks. Parabolic dryers are common, though covered patios are found on occasion.

Coffee has been imported by the team at Red Fox Coffee Merchants.
